ABOUT THE NPLFA

EDUCATION AND FOOTBALL PROGRAMME

A BRIEF HISTORY, SINCE 2014...

An initial pilot programme that began in 2014/15 saw students aged 16-18 at five clubs – Leek Town, Mickleover Sports, Newcastle Town, Radcliffe Borough and Romulus – study for a BTEC in Sport at Level 2 and Level 3, accompanied by a bespoke football programme which involves working with UEFA licensed football coaches on a daily basis and competing in the NPL Football Academy League and national cup competitions, led by the FA Youth Cup.

The programme runs alongside existing youth set-ups at participating clubs, offering the best of each year’s intake the chance to play academy and senior non-league football in the clubs’ main stadia at a level that has a fantastic reputation throughout football.

The programme has expanded with sixteen teams (thirteen clubs) taking part in the 2019/20 season across six footballing counties in Cheshire, Derbyshire, Greater Manchester, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire and Yorkshire and is on course to progress and expand further for the 2020/21 season with the inclusion of two-three further clubs.

The NPL Football Academy has enrolled over 750 students since its inception in September 2014 and continues to grow each year.
